About this college

Serampore Girls' College was founded on June 6, 1981 to cater to the local demand for a Girls College. Late Sm Anila Devi, the noted educationist and the then President of West Bengal Higher Secondary Council inaugurated the college in the presence of Late Prof. Sambhu Ghosh, the then Minister for Higher Education, Late Bhabani Mukhopadhyay, former Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Govt of West Bengal, Lale Kamal Krishna Bhattacharya, the then MLA and Chairman of Serampore Municipality and other dignitaries

Affiliated to the University of Calcutta and recognized by the Govt of West Bengal and University Grants Commission, New Delhi, the college sent its first batch of students in Humanities Group for the Graduation Examination in 1983. Since the date of its foundation the college has marched forward heedlessly to fulfil its twin goal of promoting female education in this part of the suburb and shaping its students into citizens of high calibre and character through various academic, literary and cultural activities, periodically organized therein.

Starting from a scratch, the college has grown into a very prominent educational institution with its affiliation in degree Arts and Science. At present the college has about two thousand students on its roll. It has achieved permanent affiliation to the University of Calcutta in 1981 and at present it has affiliation at the degree level in Nine Honours and Eighteen General subjects The smooth running of these departments are ensured by an efficient set of dedicated and highly qualified teachers. The college has also a well-stocked library, a reading room, well-equipped laboratories in Laboratory based Subjects, and computers for various departments including Education and Sociology.

The students are also provided with excellent Library facility which is run by qualified and efficient Librarian and other Reading Room Advisors. The College has a thoroughly computerized office with an efficient set of non-teaching staff. The students have an easy access to the Students' Common Room, Canteen and Games Room. The college has an active Grievance Redressal Cell where the In-charge of the Cell meets the students at appointed time.

The college with its attractive building on large premises, is situated in between Serampore Court and Walsh Hospital, Its close proximity to Railway station and Bus stand ensures its easy accessibility During its journey the college has received several grants and donations from various Govt and Private Sectors. Apart from the State Government and University Grants Commission, several noted persons have extended their helping hands for the overall development of the college.  Initially the college was established in an ancient rented house, later State Govt. handed over a wasteland to college on 1994. Main academic building of the college was raised on this land. 

 

In 2016, the college has been re-accredited by NAAC with a decent B Grade (2nd cycle).

College has received a State Government fund of Rupees One Crore and Nine Lakhs for Construction of a new building on 2014. A new four-storied building has been constructed with financial assistance of State Govt. and college fund.

VALUE-ADDED COURSES

Course in Communicative English: 

Serampore Girls College is equipped with a Language Lab to carry out Courses in Communicative English in order to develop the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of the students of the college. A MOU was signed with Netaji Subhas open University in 2019 to conduct a short term Certificate Course in Communicative English (CICE ) in collaboration with NSOU. Most of the students of the college are from rural and semi-urban places of the district with Bengali as their first language at school. As a result, development of English speaking skill is essential for the students to pursue higher education at college. The college began CICE course from August 2019. In the short-term Certificate Courses in Communicative English the focus is on nurturing the language potential of each Learner by harnessing all available linguistic resources and pedagogical outfits.

Certification: Successful students are awarded Certificates by NETAJI SUBHAS OPEN UNIVERSITY after the completion of the course.

 

 

SIX MONTH CERTIFICATE COURSE IN 'Data Entry Operator' :

The six month certificate course is approved by NSDC, Govt. of India. The assessment is done by NASSCOM. 

 

IIRS OUTREACH PROGRAM (Serampore Girls’ College as one of the Nodal centers)

With the advent of Information and Communication Technology and improved broadband internet connectivity, to support distance learning, Indian Space Research Organisation, Government of India has launched dedicated communication satellite called EDUSAT in 2004. Out of the variety of applications, One of the prime applications of EDUSAT satellite is tele-education at various levels (i.e. school level/UG /PG level) by different ministries / autonomous organizations/departments/institutions/universities in India.

The IIRS outreach programme is synchronized mode of online education system and is being conducted through following two major modes:

Live and Interactive classroom sessions (also known as EDUSAT) and

E-learning based online courses.

The e-learning courses are self-paced and learner centric courses and the open source software and data sets for practical exercises are also available to the participants.

Most participants perceive their Remote Sensing education as useful for their career along with the hands-on projects that are considered the most effective learning method to solve the problems in real world.

The remote sensing and GIS as a main subject paper of the UG Geography course, it plays an important role in improving the geographic literacy of contemporary college students.By combining information technology development and cognitive extension, the quality of students’ geographic abilities can be rapidly enhanced.

To achieve excellence in teaching, learning, research and professional activities in applied remote sensing, and to promote the awareness of technology within the geospatial community and outside the subject matter, the Department of Geography of Serampore Girls’ college hold the position as one of the Nodal centres for the IIRS Outreach program.

 


Campus Life

National Service Scheme (N.S.S.)

The NSS activities were started in the college in 2006. AT present the NSS Cell has two units which perform regular activities, NSS special camps and special activities. The total students strength combining two units is 200. In 2018 NSS volunteer was selected for the PRD (Pre Republic Day) camp in Delhi and in 2019 another NSS volunteer was selected for the State Republic Day camp. Along with that the NSS volunteer of our college was also selected for the award of Best NSS volunteer of the year by the University of Calcutta.

National Cadet Corps (N.C.C.)

The NCC cell under 2 Bengal Girls Battalion was started in 2008. At present the cadets strength of the NCC unit is 96. The cell performs NCC activities both within its college premises and surrounding areas. Regular classes conducted by NCC officers are held within the college premises for the cadets. The NCC cadets have achieved recognition by participating in pre-republic day (PRD) camp in 2016 and state republic day in 2016 & 2018.

Women's Cell

The primary mission of the Women’s Cell is to provide guidelines for protection of women and provide the environment to ensure basic rights to work and study with dignity and to handle related complaints received and referred to the cell. Hence, the basic objective of the Women’s Cell is to promote a social, physical and psychological environment that will raise awareness about and deter acts against women.

EXHBITION OF ART AND CRAFT

This is organized on the day of Bhog of Saraswati Puja. Students of our college put up their hand-made art/craft that they prepared on their own which are explicit in showing their skills and dynamic talents. These handcrafts are judged by the teachers and students are being awarded on the same day. Our students excel in this CREATIVITY.

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA BIRTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Swami Vivekananda was born on 12th January 1863.He was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian Philosophies to the Western World and bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th Century and also contributed to the concept of Indian Nationalism as a tool of fight against the British Empire in Colonial India. He is perhaps best known for his speech which began with the words-“Sisters and Brothers of America..”.
Our College celebrates Swami Vivekananda’s Birth anniversary every year paying him homage in the month of January. Moreover, Serampore Girls’ College being essentially a women’s’ college, buildings are named after Swami Vivekananda because he believed ,”There is no hope for that family or country where there is no estimation of Women ,where they live in sadness. There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of the women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing.”

MATRIBHASHA DIBAS (INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY)

Celebrated by the Bengali Department of Serampore Girls’ College is another important event to commemorate the sacrifice of the martyrs towards making ‘Bangla’ the official language of Bangladesh, rightly known as “SHAHID DIBASH”.
The department along with students and teachers pay homage to the memory of the martyrs through patriotic songs and poems and speeches that signify their pain, the bloodshed all for the cause of the “Mother Tongue”. This event is celebrated every year on 21st February.

BASANTO UTSAB

A colourful festival celebrated by the students in the month of March to mark the auspicious occasion of Holi (Doljatra).The students put up beautiful dance performances along with songs to entertain themselves and the teachers, thereby spreading love through ‘Colours’ (Abeer) making the ambience extremely vibrant and cheerful.

RABINDRA -NAJRUL JAYANTI

Rabindranath Tagore (7thMay,1861) and Kaji Najrul Islam (25th May, 1899). The birth anniversaries of both these important literary legends are celebrated as ‘Rabindra-Najrul Jayanti’ at our college. The students start the programme by garlanding their pictures / idols followed by cultural programmes. The event is celebrated in the month of July /August (BAISHE SRABON) , often showering respect, commemorating the death-anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION AND CULTURAL PPROGRAMME

Serampore Girls’ College organizes Annual Prize distribution programme every year, usually in the month of August to acknowledge the dedication , determination of students that go into making ‘Academic Excellence’ . The prizes are handed over to the students for their results in the University Exams in an Academic Session.
Followed by prize distribution is the Annual Cultural Programme manifest with/by beautiful performances based on a particular theme, one such theme being “SWADESH”.

HINDI DIVAS

It is celebrated by the Hindi Department of our college, that falls on 14th September each year .The Departments puts up colourful performances by the students guided by the teachers. Songs, Dances and Recitations mark the celebration.

VIDYASAGAR SMRITI MALYADAAN

Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, born on 26th September, 1820 was an ardent advocate of Women education. Our college being Girls’ college, his contribution to Women’s’ education becomes all the most significant. Thus the students accompanied by teachers garland the ‘Vidyasagar Murti’ at our college and say a few words paying him earnest respect and acknowledge his noble deeds towards upliftment of women.

BHAGAT SINGH

born on 28th September, 1907 was the young revolutionary figure of India whose two acts of Dramatic Violence against the British in India and execution at age 23 made him a folk hero of the Indian Independence movement. Students and teachers of Serampore Girls’ College pay homage to Bhagat Singh with few words on his greatness on this particular day.

KHUDIRAM BOSE SMRITI CHARON

He was an Indian revolutionary, born on December 3, 1889 who opposed British rule of India. For his role in the Muzaffarpur Conspiracy case, along with Prafulla Chaki, he was sentenced to death and subsequently executed making him one of the youngest martyrs of the Indian Independence movement. Khudiram Bose is remembered on this day with lot of love and respect followed by malyadaan/garlanding his idol. His patriotism is thus lauded.

CULTURAL FESTIVAL

Students of our college organize Cultural Fest/ known as ‘SOCIALS’(organized by Students’ Union of Serampore Girls’ College) in the months of December/January .They show their gratitude to the teaching and non-teaching staff of Serampore Girls’ College by calling them upon stage and felicitating each with Uttoriyo and badge. This is a regular practice of our college and follow this with cultural performances in the form of song, dance, recitation which is further followed by ‘BAND’ music. Performers from cultural/musical field are invited each year to entertain the audience.

INTER/INTRA COLLEGE CULTURAL COMPETITION

Last but not the least, Our College/Institution has been practicing this event each and every year, (often under the banner of NSS)as part of co-curricular activities that forms an integral part of Serampore Girls’ College. Each year, students of other colleges along with our host college take active interest in show casing their inherent talents and capabilities with lot of enthusiasm and dedication thereby winning the appreciation of judges, teachers and fellow students as audience. The competition has different categories like-

  2. Rabindra Sangeet/ Najrul Sangeet
  3. Recitation
  4. Drawing/Painting/Art and the handcrafts

At the end of the competition, the winners in each category are declared and prizes /awards are handed over to them by the Principal ma’am and the teachers.

Besides these regular cultural activities there are academic /educational programmes in the form of Seminars and workshops resulting in all round development of Serampore Girls’ College.

Central Library

 

Library is an integral part of any higher educational institute. The college has an enriched library with a huge collection of Text & Reference Books, Journals , magazines . The Library room has separate reading spaces for faculty members and students. Internet facility is provided to ensure easy access to the e-resources. The institute has subscribed to INFLIBNET for N-LIST programme .

OPAC facility is available for searching and checking availability of books. The library information system has been digitized by installation of KOHA Software.

The library remains open for the users from 10.30 a.m. to 4.30.p.m. on each working day except Sundays and other Holidays. However, the timing of the issue of books and journals is under the discretion of the Librarian.

Issue of books will ordinarily commence half an hour after the scheduled time of opening and will be stopped one hour before the scheduled time of closing the library.

  1. Library Membership Registration:

Membership of the college library for the purpose of enjoying facilities of reading and borrowing are open to:

(a)Faculty’s members of the college:

(I)Permanent: The permanent full time Teachers/Librarian /Assistant Librarian will be allowed to borrow not more than 5(Five) books at a time for a period of 60(Sixty) days.

(II)Full time contractual/Part-time/Honorary/Guest: The person who will be appointed by the college as full time contractual faculty member in various departments will enjoy library facilities till the expiry of the term of his/her appointment .He/she will be allowed to borrow not more than 3(Three) books at a time   for a period of 30(thirty) days.

(III)Faculty member joined in FDP scheme ,Administrative officer, if any ,will be allowed to borrow not more than 2(two) books at a time for the period of 30(thirty)days.

(b)Non-teaching staff members of the college:

(I)The  Administrative staff/Library/Laboratory assistants of the categories permanent  and contractual full time (with more than one year of service)will be allowed to borrow not more than 2(two)books at a time for a period of 30(thirty) days.

(II)The Office/Library/Laboratory attendants(Group D Staff)of the categories permanent and contractual full time (with more than one year of service)will be allowed to borrow not more than 1(one)book  at a time for a period of 30(thirty)days.

(c)Regular students, will be allowed to borrow 1(one) book from the college library for a period of 15(fifteen) days.

(d)Students who have (i) dropped  out ,i.e. student who completed the college classes in any subject but have not appeared in the university exam., will have to take readmission in the college in order to avail himself / herself of library facilities like regular students .

  1. General Rules:

(i) Enter your name and sign in the register kept at the entrance counter before entering library.

(ii) Unauthorized persons /non-members of the library shall have no access to the library.

(iii) Conversation, talking, sleeping, smoking, loitering and Tiffin taking are not allowed within the library premises. Mobile phones are also not allowed within the library premises.

(iv) Without obtaining special permission from the college Principal /Librarian, nobody except faculty members shall enter the stack area or any other part of the library not ordinarily opened to him/her.

(v) At the time of entering the library, all personal belongings shall be deposited at the prescribed counter kept beside the library entrance and must be taken back when the depositor leaves the library. The library will not be liable for any loss /damage caused to the unclaimed deposits.

(vi) The library cards are not transferable.

(vii) Loss of Library Card: In case of loss /damage of library card for the first time, a duplicate one will be issued on payment of Rs. 20 / -per lending card and Rs. 20/- per Reference Card. Issue of duplicate card in case of further looses /damages will be at the sole discretion of Principal/ Librarian and will attract a fee of Rs. 40/- per card.

(viii) Reissue / Renewal of library book : Any  student can reissue or renew his/her home issued library book for maximum 3 times with one month duration each provided the home issued book has not been on demand by other members of the library.

(ix) Overdue charges for students will be Rs. 1/- per day per book.

(x) At the time of issuing a book ,every user is expected to examine it carefully and the cases of mutilation ,defacement  or damage ,if any, should immediately be brought to the notice of the concerned library staff at the issue counter, subsequently ,the person to whom the book was issued last will be held responsible for the condition  of the book and he/she must compensate either by binding /repairing of the book as decided by the college librarian.

(xi)The reference books, rare books, periodicals, reports, and books of some special collections as well as career guidance books and books marked as ‘NOT TO BE LENT OUT’ are not to be issued outside of the library.

(xii) Reading Room Service:- The college library has a spacious reading room where users can read documents as well as newspapers. Ordinarily not more than 2 (two) books at a time will be allowed to be retained for use in the reading room. Again personal books or already home issued books cannot be consulted in the reading room.

(xiii) Loss of Library Book: Person held responsible for loss/ damage/ defacement or mutilation of library book shall be liable to compensate the library by replacing with a new copy i.e. current edition of the book lost, damaged etc. and if the book is not available in the market, he/she must pay the library twice the price of original book.

(xiv) Library Clearance: It is mandatory for every library member to collect his/her library clearance certificate from the college library, at the end of his/her study/service, by surrendering library cards, paying and accumulated library dues etc. For students, library clearance  certificate will be issued only once in the 2nd,4th, and 6th semester, between 11.30A.M -3.30 P.M on Monday to Friday and 11.30 A.M -1.30 P.M on Saturdays .At the time of obtaining  library clearance, a student must bring all of his/her library cards together with the 2nd, 4th, 6th semester  fee book and if he/she is not a member of the library then he/she must bring all the fees book of 2nd, 4th, and 6th semester student. Without these documents library clearance certificate will not be issued to the students.

FDP Scheme:

The Library Rules framed above are subject to change, may be altered and amended from time to time or new rules may be added by the college authority and that will be effective and binding to all concerned.

 Computer/Internet/Reprography Usage Rules

  1. Internet Surfing Hours/ Printing or Reprography may be done between:-

(i)Monday to Friday: 11.30 A.M to 4 P.M.

(ii)Saturdays: 11.30A.M to 1.30 P.M.

  1. Use of Internet is a privilege granted for classroom related projects/ study only.
  2. The students will use it exclusively for educational/ academic purpose under the supervision of their departmental teachers/ permission from the College Librarian.
  3. The Students will not be permitted to use/ allow:
  • E-mail (Other than academic or career related purpose).
  • Playing games.
  • Face book or any social networking site.
  • Any other obscene or obnoxious website.
  • Installing/ Updating/ downloading any kind of software without permission from College Librarian.
  • Using Scanner without permission from College Librarian.
  1. Should a user commit any violation, disciplinary action may be taken by the college authority.
  2. “Be considerate of others”.

Faculty members, staff members, and students are not expected to surf Internet for more than 60(sixty) minutes and 30(thirty) minutes respectively at a time.

  1. Downloading: Library members can have the opportunity to download /copy file(s) ,question papers , etc. to their respective external storage devices, may be CD or Pen drive or the like ,only after taking permission from/ intimation to the College Librarian. However, for students, permission from the Principal /concerned Faculty member/College Librarian is needed before downloading a large file (more than 10 MB).
  2. Any personal file created should not be stored in the computers after the task is complete.
  3. Food or drink must not be taken in the vicinity of the network areas.
  4. Printing facility is available to the members of the library for records searched from internet strictly for academic/research purpose only at a nominal cost as follows:
  5. For students: Rs. 1 /- per page in black for question papers.

Rs.2/- per web page in black.

Rs.3/-per web page for pictures /images in black.

  1. For Faculties, Staff members:

Rs. 2/- per web page in black.

          Before printing, the permission from College Librarian must be taken.

  1. Reprographic facility is also available to the members of the library only for academic /research purpose. Personal documents, exercise books etc. are not to allowed for the reprography .Again, self operation of Xerox machine by any member of the library is strictly prohibited.

          Before Xeroxing, the permission from College Librarian must be taken.


Parents teacher meeting

Parents teacher meeting  are conducted regularly in our institute once in six months for the continuous improvement and development of the student. Serampore Girls' College collects feedback from various shakeholders including parents during parent meetings.

Students are admitted to college after passing their 10+2 exam. They become adult completing the age of eighteen years and from now they have to prepare themselves for being financially independent in future as well as to bear the responsibilities of their families as well as society in future. The college offers opportunities of self development through inculcating human values, ethics, spirit of team work, leadership etc along with pursuing their study to attain highest level as far as possible. All these will lead to their personality development and ultimately helps the girls to achieve the goal. Hence to promote peaceful and joyful learning atmosphere in college students must obey the discipline of the college.

Students would

  1. abide by rules and regulations of the college and respect its vision, mission, cultural practices and the traditions.

  2. stay in college with the joyful learning experience.

  3. maintain the highest standards of academic integrity while presenting own academic work.

  4. remain punctual, disciplined and regular in attending classes.

  5. observe modesty in their overall appearance(dress, hair style, make ups) and behaviour.

শিক্ষার্থীদের আচরণবিধি :-

উচ্চমাধ্যমিক (10+2) উত্তীর্ণ হয়ে যে সমস্ত শিক্ষার্থীরা এই শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানে প্রবেশাধিকার পেয়েছো, তারা অবশ্যই অষ্টাদশ বর্ষ পূর্ণ করে প্রাপ্ত বয়সে উত্তীর্ণ হয়েছো। এখন তোমরা তোমাদের আগামী জীবনরেখা এমনভাবে তৈরি করো যাতে অর্থনৈতিক দিক থেকে স্বনির্ভর হতে পারো এবং ভবিষ্যতে  পারিবারিক ও সামাজিক দায়িত্ব পালন করতে সক্ষম হও।

নীতি ও নৈতিকতাবোধ সম্পন্ন হওয়া, সংঘবদ্ধভাবে কাজ করার তীব্র প্রবণতা, দলীয় নেতৃত্ব দেওয়ার যোগ্যতা অর্জন ইত্যাদি মূল্যবান দিকগুলির মাধ্যমে এই শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান তোমাদের স্বনির্ভর হওয়ার সুবর্ন সুযোগ করে দিচ্ছে, যার দ্বারা পরবর্তীকালে উচ্চশিক্ষা লাভের জন্য সচেষ্ট হতে পারবে ও সাফল্য আসবে। এতে প্রত্যেক শিক্ষার্থীর বেক্তিসাতন্ত্রবোধ বর্ধিত হবে এবং পরিশেষে চূড়ান্ত সাফল্য অর্জন করবে। অবশ্য প্রত্যেক শিক্ষার্থী শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানের অভ্যন্তরের নিয়মানুবর্তিতা সচেতনভাবে পালন করে, তবেই শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানের শান্তিময় সুন্দর আনন্দপূর্ণ পরিবেশের মাধ্যমে যথার্থ জ্ঞান লাভে সক্ষম হবে ও নিজেকে উন্নত করতে পারবে সর্বদা সর্বত্র।

শিক্ষার্থীদের অবশ্য করণীয় :-

  • শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানের অভ্যন্তরীণ নিয়মাবলী, দূরদৃষ্টিসম্পন্ন বিশেষ কার্য, ঐতিহ্যবাহী সাংস্কৃতিক অভ্যাসগুলি পালন করতে হবে।
  • আনন্দদায়ক শিক্ষালাভের অভিজ্ঞতার মাধ্যমে প্রত্যেক শিক্ষার্থী শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানের সঙ্গে যুক্ত থাকবে।
  • নিজস্ব জ্ঞানগর্ভ কর্মকে উপস্থাপনার সময়ে শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান সংক্রান্ত ন্যায়পরতাকে উচ্চতর আদর্শের সঙ্গে বজায় রাখতে হবে।
  • শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রতিটি শ্রেণীকক্ষে নিয়মিত উপস্থিত থেকে শিষ্ঠাচার ও নিয়মানুবর্তিতা পালন করতে হবে।
  • প্রত্যেক শিক্ষার্থীর সার্বিক হাবভাব ও আচরণ দৃষ্টিনন্দন সুলভ হতে হবে(বিশেষ করে পোশাক-পরিচ্ছদ , কেশবিন্যাস, সাজসজ্জার ক্ষেত্রে)
  • শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রত্যেক শিক্ষক, শিক্ষিকা, শিক্ষাকর্মী বন্ধু এবং সহপাঠীদের সঙ্গে সম্মানজনক শিষ্ট আচরণ করতে হবে।
  • শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রাঙ্গন এবং তার পার্শ্ববর্তী এলাকার পরিচ্ছন্নতা এবং স্বচ্ছতার লক্ষ্যে নিজেকে ব্রতী করতে হবে। বাজে কাগজ এবং প্লাস্টিক যত্রতত্র না ফেলে, নির্দিষ্ট পাত্রে ফেলতে হবে।
  • শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানের বিষয়-সম্পত্তির প্রতি যত্নশীল ও শ্রদ্ধাবান হতে হবে।
  • একমাত্র সত্য অভিযোগ সমস্ত তথ্য-প্রমান সহ অকপটে দাখিল করতে হবে।
  • ৱ্যাগিং মুক্ত সুস্থ পরিবেশ রক্ষার্থে সক্রিয় ভূমিকা পালন করতে হবে।
  • সুস্বাস্থ্য বজায় রাখা এবং যেকোনো প্রকার মাদকদ্রব্য সম্পর্কিত বিষয় থেকে বিরত থাকতে হবে।
  • অধ্যক্ষমহোদয়ের কার্যালয় এবং বিভাগের দেওয়া বিজ্ঞপ্তি প্রতিদিন অনুসরণ করতে হবে। এক্ষেত্রে সহপাঠীর মৌখিক তথ্য-নির্ভর না হওয়া বাঞ্চনীয়।
  • প্রাত্যহিক জীবনে জল প্রয়োজনীয়। অতএব পানীয় জল সংগ্রহ ও শৌচালয়গুলি ব্যবহার করার সময় জল অপচয় বন্ধ করার দিকে লক্ষ্য রাখতে হবে। বাড়িতে এ ব্যাপারে সচেতন থাকতে হবে এবং সমাজে জল সংরক্ষণের বার্তা পৌঁছে দিতে হবে।
  • শিক্ষা প্রাঙ্গনের সবুজায়নের প্রতি যত্নবান হতে হবে। তারা সর্বদা নিজেদের পারিপার্শ্বিক পরিবেশ রক্ষার্থে সচেতন হবে। নিজেদের বাড়িতে এবং চারিপাশে চারাগাছ লাগাতে যত্নবান হবে।
  • শিক্ষাপ্রাঙ্গনের অভ্যন্তরে চলমান দূরাভাষ ব্যবহার থেকে বিরত থাকতে হবে।
  • নির্ধারিত পাঠক্রম এবং অন্যান্য কার্যাবলী অনুসরণ করার জন্য কনিষ্ঠ সহপাঠীদের পরামর্শ দিতে হবে।
  • সামাজিক প্রয়োজনে অত্যন্ত অনুভূতিশীল মনোভাব রাখতে হবে।

Kanyashree Scholarship

 What is Kanyashree

Kanyashree is an initiative taken by the Government of West Bengal to improve the life and the status of the girls by helping economically backward families with cash so that families do not arrange the marriage of their girl child before eighteen years because of economic problem.

 What is the objective

To provide financial help to the girls from disadvantaged families to pursue higher studies To reduce dropouts, especially amongst girls from low-income families, who are not under any other scholarship To prevent child marriage in West Bengal by increasing the enrolment of girls in secondary education, vocational or sports training To encourage the delay of marriages for girls until they reach the age of 18 To help students to continue their education for a long time

Types of scheme

The Kanyashree Prakalpa scheme has two benefit components.
Annual Scholarship
Annual scholarship to be paid to the girls from the age of 13 to 18, for every year. It helps to ensure that the girls remain in school and unmarried at the time.
On-time Grant
Under the Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme, the one-time grant will be paid to girls between the age of 18 and 19.

Eligibility Criteria for Annual scholarship (K1 Level)
The eligibility criteria to get Annual Scholarship under the Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme are below for reference:
Students between 13 and 17 years (before turning 18 years) of age are eligible to get Kanyashree Prakalpa Annual scholarship Applicant should be unmarried Students enrolled in classes VIII‐XII in Government recognised regular or equivalent school, equivalent vocational or any other technical training courses are eligible for this scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria for One Time Grant (K2 Level)
The eligibility criteria for a one-time grant under the Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme are below for reference:
A girl whose age is between 18 to 19 years (after turning 18 years and before turn 19) can apply for this.
An unmarried girl on attaining the age of 18 only is eligible If a girl is enrolled and regularly attending an Institution of Higher Education or Training is eligible for a one-time grant.

 

 

Freeship for students

FULL Free

  1. Based on academic merit and neediness, 100% discount or FULL FREE on tuition fees are offered to those studentes who are very meritorious and at the same time have little or no financial capacity to bear tuition fees.

HALF Free

  1. Based on academic merit and neediness, 50% discount or HALF FREE on tuition fees are offered to those studentes who are regular in college and at the same time have some financial difficulty to bear tuition fees.

N.B. Freeship is offered on application by the students and after an interview with the applicants, college authority decides if the applicant is eligible or not for freeship. Submission of application does not ensure the availability of this facility.

Student Credit Card Scheme

Under the visionary leadership of Mamata Banerjee, Hon’ble Chief Minister, West Bengal, The Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal has introduced the Student Credit Card Scheme for the students of West Bengal to enable them to pursue education without having any financial constraints. This scheme is designed to support the students to pursue secondary, higher secondary, madrasah, undergraduate and post graduate studies including professional degree and other equivalent courses in any School, Madrasah, College, University and other affiliated institutes within and outside India. Students studying in various coaching institutions for appearing in different competitive examinations like Engineering, Medical, Law, IAS, IPS, WBCS etc, can also avail the loan under this scheme. A student from West Bengal can obtain a maximum loan of Rs. 10 lakhs @ 4% per annum simple interest from the State Cooperative Bank and its affiliated Central Cooperative Banks and District Central Cooperative Banks and Public/ Private Sector Banks. 1% interest concession will be provided to borrower if the interest is fully serviced during the study period. The upper age limit for the interested students has been kept as 40(forty) years at the time of applying for loan. The repayment period shall be fifteen (15) years for any loan availed under this Credit Card including the Moratorium/ repayment holiday.
