The department of Mathematics of Serampore Girls' College started it's journey in 2002 with general course. Majority of students are from rural areas with sociologically and economically weak background. From the early days, the department has tried to make the women self-sufficient by enriching their knowledge and by increasing their power of critical thinking. 

Presently, the department has one faculty member. Apart from regular classes, tutorial and remedial classes are taken. Also several other activities like quiz contest, debate, open house, science day celebration, earth day celebration etc. are arranged together with other science departments and students are encouraged  to participate in all cocurricular activities organized by the college and other colleges.
