About the Department

Serampore Girls' College came into being as one of te noteworthy recognized educational institution affiliated to the University of Calcutta in June, 1981 offering only B.A. pass course in Bengali. The history of its studies is 42 years old only. It playes an important roll among all the girls colleges in Hooghly dist. at the outset, the Bengali Language and Literature was an elective subject till 1995 when it was elivated to Hons. Standered . The dept was started with a handfull of students of 23 and 1 teacher only. then the Total no of students of the college was 70 only. The first batch successfully came out in 1983. The second teaching post came in existence in 1984 followed by third post in 2003. The department actively participated in the celebration of silver jubilee organized by the college to focus its glorious past. The present student strength is 645 only. Now a days our (approximate 60%) students engaged with higher education.
