Description

Location of Visit: AJC Bose Indian Botanic Garden, Howrah, Shibpur.

Brief description: We started our journey from our college campus around 9:30 am. Total 24 students participated in this tour (11students are from semester I, 4 students from semester III and 10 students from semester V) We visited the campus of botanical garden, Great bayan tree, Hibiscus garden,Cactus house. Also we visited Central Botanical Laboratory, museum, gallery of CBL, which have more than 7500 exhibits including dyes, edible ethnomedicine, resin, fibre, wood, fish catching equipments, hats etc. Inside CBL we show herbarium of different plants.

Objective

Field study is a compulsory part of B.Sc MDC Botany degree course of semester I under CCF curriculum (NEP 2020). The aim is giving students a basic idea of plant diversity around us, morphology, phylotaxy of different plants, different types of inflorescence, flowers and fruits.

Outcome

Students of semester I took part enthusiastically to fulfil our goal, they have gained knowledge about different plant types. They realized the importance and engagement of plant in our daily life not as food, medicine, oxygen supplier but in every aspect of our life. They take photographs and learned a lot regarding wild as well as economically important plant species.
