Description

With the objective of introducing our students to some of the techniques and theoretical aspects of translation studies, this Add on Course in Translation Studies is conducted by the Department of English. This course is held after the End Semester Exam of Semester I during the term break. The course concludes with an Assessment. Certificates showing their marks and Grades are awarded to the students.

 

Objective

  • providing our students with a thorough knowledge of the history of translation;
  • enabling our students to interact critically and productively with examples from translation from various languages;
  • introducing our students to some of the techniques and theoretical aspects of translation studies;
  • verifying the validity and applicability of the theoretical paradigms through analysis of a number of existing translations;
  • Identifying and highlighting comparative differences in literary traditions through the linguistic and literary analyses of source and translated texts.
  • Acquiring skills of translation especially in English and their mother tongue.

Outcome

    • The students achieved skills of translation in English.
    • The course also developed their communication skills.
    • The students learnt to systematize ideas on translation according to the literary period that generated them and to follow their development in the history of literature.
    • Translation instigated critical thinking, and is a great aid in the practice of interdisciplinary research.
