Course in Communicative English


Serampore Girls College is equipped with a Language Lab to carry out Courses in Communicative English in order to develop the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of the students of the college. A MOU was signed with Netaji Subhas open University in 2019 to conduct a short term Certificate Course in Communicative English (CICE ) in collaboration with NSOU. Most of the students of the college are from rural and semi-urban places of the district with Bengali as their first language at school. As a result, development of English speaking skill is essential for the students to pursue higher education at college. The college began CICE course from August 2019. In the short-term Certificate Courses in Communicative English the focus is on nurturing the language potential of each Learner by harnessing all available linguistic resources and pedagogical outfits.

Successful students are awarded Certificates by NETAJI SUBHAS OPEN UNIVERSITY after the completion of the course.

About Course


The college conducted a three months Short term Course titled “Certificate in Communicative English” in collaboration with Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU). The objective of the course is to train candidates in language skills. They candidates are trained to use a number of communication strategies such as follow up questions and giving extended answers.

Capacity


Serampore Girls’ College Language Lab has the capacity to provide training to 30 students at a time.

 

Syllabus & Examination


The syllabus of the course has been framed by NSOU. The Course Structure is of 200 marks.
Paper 1 : Speaking and Listening Skills (30 hrs)
Paper 2 : Reading and Writing Skills (30 hrs)
Evaluation is made on the basis of internal assignment and practical examination held on the completion of the course.

  • 20% marks are reserved for internal assignment of each paper.
  • Pass marks 40% in each paper.

 

Outcome of the Course


After completing the course successfully

  • The students will develop skills in survey taking, problem solving and negotiations in the classroom and outside.
  • The students will develop English speaking, reading and writing skills that will provide them better job opportunities in future.
